Having finished their studies, the group of students readed for their final exam: an adventure without any teachers along. Their mission is to journey to town, purchase supplies, and visit the haunted mountain, discover if the mountain is truly haunted, and return with their report. Unknown to the students, the real purpose of the adventure is to test the party and see if they can move within society without being noticed.
The departure took place after the group was coached by the Father and given instructions on what to say in town:
"The town is a dangerous place for students. There are guild spies all over town and they are looking for students. You will need supplies to complete your journey so I will give you each 20 GP for food and equipment. To get to the town of Gimel, travel west along the river until you reach the Ford of Ayer. Cross the river and turn north traveling on the north/south road which leads to Gimel. Until you reach the road, you should avoid contact. Once on the road, you may travel openly as a band of adventurers from the southern city of Medina. Your band is looking for adventure and has heard there is a haunted mountain and wish to investigate. Good luck, my children. May the god Endara guide you in your travels"
The characters slip off the mountain without being seen. Along the trip, they killed a scorpion, fell into the river, and oversaw an exchange of two black gloved riders. Once in town, they find a room but make Jim the bartender suspicious. They leave town and travel to the haunted mountain.
Once at the mountain, the battle a few squirrels and find the entrance to the cave. Inside, the find a strange room with several side rooms. One of the rooms has a desk melted into it. They also find a secret door to a ladder which leads to an observation room high in the mountain. The party almost dies when the air runs out in the room. After finding a book and a far seeing device, they leave.
After the party left the dungeon, they stumbled onto the protectors. Although nervous, the party used the brand to identify the protectors, were given an explanation of protectors and told the latest rumor: The Duke is getting married to the daughter of the Guild Master. This was ominous news since that will give the Guild a mouth to the Duke.
After returning to town the characters noticed Jim watching them. The party decides to leave for Medina to learn about the town and to find a different way back to the school. They hear riders traveling the road at night. Then go to the Gray Griffon and make note of the sites in the town.
They travel south and then east for two days and then north. The river is impassable so the continue east until they find a rope bridge. They attempt to cross without checking its condition and Cimral falls with the bridge. It breaks on the near side and she held on so she makes it to the other side. The party manage to reconstruct the bridge and all make it across.
The party heads for the school. The party camps and waits for nightfall to attempt the path. The moon is waning half and provide some light for the attempt. The party attempts the same path they left on and does so without problem. they scratch on the door and a small hatch in the opens. After some thought, Marie puts her arm in through the door where someone shankes her hand giving the brand sign.
